Mineral Face Makeup: The Basics

by Chris Crompton

Mineral face makeup is really much better for your skin that the makeups that are made with oil. Mineral face makeup is usually in a powder form and is made from minerals that are found in the soil. It might sound a bit nasty and gross but don't judge it until you have tried it for yourself. The mineral face makeup feels much lighter than wearing other makeups.

After I had first tried mineral face makeup I did not like it because I was not used to putting such small amounts of foundation on my face. I thought my face ended up looking overdone and off color. I said to myself that I would never use mineral makeup again and then I saw it on sale on television and the actors demonstrated how to use it properly and I decided to try it again.

The first step in applying mineral face makeup is to apply a good mineral makeup moisturizer. The moisturizer softens your skin and makes the foundation go on more smoothly. I would also highly recommend purchasing a set of quality mineral makeup brushes. Oftentimes, when you buy a starter kit of mineral makeup it will come with a set of makeup brushes. It is advisable not to use inferior quality brushes.

The truth about the brushes is that only high quality mineral makeup brushes will work to give you a better result (the brushes are actually a lot different than regular brushes; they have a flatter base). The shape of the brush has a lot to do with how the powder will go on your face. You'll find that a quality brush smoothes the makeup onto your face instead of simply absorbing it into the brush and making a mess.

Once you use the mineral makeup moisturizer, then place a small amount of the foundation powder onto the brush and tap it against the bottle to shake off the loose powder, then apply to the face and enjoy the results! It takes some getting used to, because like I said, mineral makeups are a lot lighter than liquid ones. At first you will not notice that you have makeup on at all, but be careful not to overdo it.

Mineral makeups are becoming more mainstream these days, especially since most of the popular shopping networks regularly have full hours devoted to nothing but. I would recommend always being sure to pick the higher-end brands because the cheap stuff never works as good as the nicer stuff. Even the nicer brands aren't all that expensive, and once you use it on your face you'll see where those few extra dollars went. After using bare mineral makeup, I'll never go back to using liquids.
